Sgt. Audie Murphy

During the Colmar Pocket campaign in France, Murphy held off advancing German forces despite being outnumbered and wounded. He mounted a burning tank destroyer and used its machine gun to repel enemy infantry before leading a counterattack that restored his unit’s defensive position. He continued to direct and coordinate friendly forces while exposed to sustained enemy fire.
